Hall Of Shame:
Tributes & Truth
This page has links to stories I've heard first-hand from those
involved, or situations that actually happened to me. There is no
rumor or agenda here, like you will find all over the internet. These
stories are verified true.

Petsmart Tortures Animals
PETsMART uses glue traps to control their rodent problem. Glue traps
are among the cruelest traps, causing a slow and painful death.
PETsMART also sells the same kinds of rodents (mice and rats) that
they're trapping - you'd think they might have a bit more compassion.
You'd be wrong.
My Comments On Petsmart
Well, I don't have any nice stories to tell about PETsMART. I wrote
to them concerning their use of glue traps in their stores to kill
mice and rats (and they also sell domestic mice and rats). I got a
rather prepackaged letter in response...
Iams Cruelty
An undercover PETA investigation of Iams found dogs who had gone crazy
from intense confinement in barren steel cages and cement cells, dogs
who had been left on a filthy paint-chipped floor after chunks of
muscle had been hacked from their thighs, dogs who had been surgically
debarked, and horribly sick dogs and cats who were languishing in
their cages, neglected and left to suffer without veterinary care.
Beware Pet Stores
It's unfortunate that pet stores actually sell pets, and not just pet
supplies. They're well aware that the supplies are their bread and
butter, and they think that they need to sell the pets in order to
create the demand for the supplies.
Got Fur?
Rabbit fur is marketed as "the byproduct of the rabbit meat"
industry. The truth is, meat rabbits are slaughtered at a much younger
age than those bred for fur, since it takes longer for the coat to
grow out into the luxurious coats rabbits have. Also, fur trim is
not the leftovers from making full-length coats - more animals are
killed to make fur trim than for full-length coats. If you have real
fur, there is something beneficial you can do with it.
Do you wear fur?
Like other animals farmed for their fur, rabbits - who are
fastidiously clean by nature - are kept in tiny, filthy cages,
surrounded by their own waste. They spend their entire miserable
lives standing on thin wires, never having a chance to dig, jump, or
play. The methods of slaughter are barbaric - their necks are broken
or their skulls are smashed before they are strung up by their hind
legs and their heads are cut off.
Do you wear leather?
Every time you choose to buy a leather jacket or leather shoes, you
sentence animals to a lifetime of suffering. Buying leather directly
contributes to factory farms and slaughterhouses, since the skins of
animals are the most economically important coproduct of the
multibillion-dollar meat industry. The vast majority of animals
slaughtered for their skin suffer all the horrors of factory
farming-intense confinement, painful mutilations, deprivation, harmful
hormone and antibiotic injections, and cruel treatment during
transport and slaughter.
Stop the Canadian Baby Seal Slaughter
Nearly 1 million baby seals will be clubbed or shot to death in Canada
in just three years. Shockingly, the hunt is subsidized by the
Canadian government! Every winter, Northwest Atlantic harp seals
migrate to Eastern Canada to give birth and mate. Following their
birth in late winter, mothers leave in search of mates, while the pups
remain helpless and vulnerable on the ice until they can swim and
catch their own food. It’s during this time when they are most
vulnerable that they are mercilessly slaughtered for their pelts!
Stop
Aerial Gunning Wolves in Alaska
Governor Murkowski reinstated the savage practice of aerial hunting
last year over widespread public opposition. Trophy hunters with
permits can gun down wolves from planes, or chase wolves to exhaustion
in the deep snow, then land and shoot these helpless animals! 147
wolves were killed by aerial hunters last year. Aerial gunners can
kill males, females and even wolf pups as part of this program.
Stop Canned Hunts
What's a canned hunt? That's when people hunt animals in a closed-in
area so they can have a guaranteed kill. It also allows them to
choose a kill method more preferable to an undamaged pelt than a
humane death. Cowardice refined.
Petco Horror Stories
PETCO has been the subject of an intensive PETA campaign, and horror
stories abound of the conditions and treament of the live animals they
sell.
My Comments on Petco
Believe it or not, PETCO does warrant some defensive words - it is
possible to find stories about PETCO that are positive, encouraging,
and downright happy.
Marshall Farms
Marshall Farms is the main breeder supplying PETCO with animals.
PETCO and Marshall Farms both insist that their animals are treated
with the utmost care and love, in preparation for happy healthy lives
as loving pets. Marshall Farms is also the main breeder supplying
animal testing laboratories with their animals. It would seem that
there would be a conflict of interest here. Or perhaps it's corporate
pragmatism of a most inhumane nature.
Plush Cats/Real Rabbit Fur
Kill live animals and use their fur to make fake animals. Kill live
animals and use their fur to make fake animals. Kill live animals and
use their fur to make fake animals. No matter how many times you say
it, it's as disgusting as the first time. People who do this should
be destroyed.
Intrepid Ship's Cats
This is the company making plush toys using real rabbit fur. Note to
self...
